The vital work of Community Employment Schemes (CE schemes) across Kerry often goes unnoticed, but as the back-bone of rural communities, they have never been needed more.
However, in recent months there were mounting fears across the county of the loss of many employees from these schemes due to the effect of Government eligibility rules.
Several eligibility rules have been criticised due to the effect they were having on such schemes in rural communities. An in-depth investigation by The Kerryman on the effects of eligibility rules across Kerry resulted in the Department of Social Protection paying heed to the situation on the ground and led to a meeting in January where concerns were expressed. A campaign for change to the rules was led by Cllr Norma Moriarty, who was joined by colleagues from all parties. .

The Employment History provides an effective tool for evaluating if the E-Tools for assessment and skill development are coordinated with the Job Bank in respect to matching individuals goals, skills, jobs, and job accessibility. The specific tasks for Therap s Community Employment system can be used with Therap s service tracking system to track billable services and, if necessary, submit claims for those services.
By identifying and supporting successful employment, the community E-Tools are continually being developed and refined to work with Therap s job bank and facilitate working with individuals to achieve community employment.
Laois community employment CE and TÚS schemes extended

The contracts for Community Employment and TÚS scheme participants in Laois and Offaly have been extended because of Covid restrictions.
The many participants of CE and TÚS schemes in Laois and Offaly whose contracts were due to finish over the period since last October will now benefit from a further extension up to the 2nd July, Fine Gael Deputy Charlie Flanagan has confirmed this Tuesday, March 2.
