Douglas Rice is a Senior Fellow on the Center’s Housing Policy team. He is the author of many influential analyses of budget and spending issues in the Housing Choice Voucher Program and other low-income housing assistance programs. His work also explores ways to make housing programs more effective, such as by expanding families’ housing options in communities with quality schools and other opportunities. He speaks frequently before nonprofit and industry groups, and has been quoted in publications such as the New York Times and Washington Post. Before joining CBPP in 2005, Doug was Director of Housing and Community Development Policy at Catholic Charities USA, which represents one of the nation’s largest networks of social service providers. He has degrees from Harvard College and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and, in a previous life, taught philosophy of science at several universities.

Mexico s National Minimum Wage Commission announced its decision to increase the general minimum daily wage to $141.70 Mexican pesos (approximately US$7.10) in 2021.
The 15 percent increase is intended to recover purchasing power in Mexico and meet international expectations.
The minimum daily wage for the northern border was increased to $213.39 pesos.
Two professions will be added to the list of minimum wage jobs: domestic workers with a minimum daily wage of $154.03 pesos, and agricultural workers with a daily wage of $160.19 pesos.

The social groups with the highest percentage of people living in poverty are the indigenous sector and indigenous women in rural areas.
In Mexico, 52.4 million live in poverty, a figure that is equivalent to 41.9% of the population and represents a decrease of just 2.5% compared to the percentage registered in 2008 when the percentage was 44.4, according to figures from the National Evaluation Council. of the Social Development Policy (Coneval).
According to the results of the study “10 years of poverty measurement in Mexico”, carried out by Coneval, although there was an improvement in the indicators of social deprivation and 24 states reduced their poverty levels, the southeast of the country is still the region with the highest percentage of poor inhabitants.
