The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Friday afternoon through Monday afternoon, warning of dangerously hot conditions possibly nearing 100 degrees on Saturday and Sunday in most of Western Washington away from the coast and Olympic Mountains.
Experts said this kind of heat can be deadly to vulnerable populations. Statistics show that heat kills more people, on average, than any other weather-related hazard. Heat waves are especially more fatal when they last more than two consecutive days.
Indoor places are still operating at limited capacity because of coronavirus restrictions, which makes it more difficult to find places to stay cool during the heatwave.
