The Right Place hired a new president and CEO to replace Birgit Klohs, who will retire in early 2021.
After a national search, The Right Place board of directors said Friday that Randy Thelen was chosen as the organization’s next top executive, effective March 1.
Klohs is retiring after 33 years at The Right Place.
“Randy will help us write the next chapter for The Right Place and West Michigan,” said Sean Welsh, The Right Place board chair and PNC Bank’s regional president for West Michigan. “Continuing to tell our story to business leaders and job providers around the world is so important in a very competitive market. I’m confident that he’s the right person to continue building our significant accomplishments.”

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Right Place economic development organization has announced its new president, who has been working on development efforts in Denver, Colorado.
Randy Thelen will replace Birgit Klohs, who is retiring after serving 33 years as president and chief executive officer of the organization that is dedicated to attracting, retaining and growing business in West Michigan.
Thelen, who is a Michigan native, will start his new position on March 1, 2021, according to a news release from The Right Place.
He has 25 years of experience in economic development, and currently is senior vice president of economic development for the Downtown Denver Partnership, where he’s credited with supporting $1 billion in downtown investments.
Vegan NBA players JaVale McGee, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan have started a plant-based-themed musical band is in partnership with vegan meat company Beyond Meat to promote plant-based foods during the holiday season. The Beyond Boys debut track is featured in a commercial for the brand and entitled “12 Days of Christmas, which riffs on the classic holiday song, only instead of partridges in a pear tree, the lyrics feature Beyond Meat classics like sausage pizza.
“Getting into the holiday spirit, I thought it would be fun to put a twist on a classic Christmas hit featuring some of my favorite Beyond Meat products,” said McGee, who produced the track. “I hope everyone enjoys the new song, in the same way, I enjoyed producing it and is inspired to try more plant-based eats this holiday season.”
