Public art opens doors to creativity in Newton

Finding inspiration for Newton Community Prideâs latest public art initiative was as simple as riding a bike.
Organizers discovered painted, recycled doors in the grass and woods along bike trails in West Concord, Lexington and Arlington. The Umbrella Arts Center had installed the doors as part of their âGo Out Doorsâ campaign.
Newton Community Pride Board Chair Gloria Gavris said they decided to launch a similar project in Newton to bring art into the community and increase foot traffic in business areas.
Faribault Foundation Seeks Community Pride Grant Applications
Kymn Anderson, Executive Director of the Faribault Foundation visited with us today on our KDHL AM Minnesota program. The Foundation awards Community Pride Grants to individuals or organizations who do great work in the community.
Application deadline is April 1, 2021. Preference will be given to applicants who are addressing the core areas of cultural diversity, youth and families and community betterment.
The mission of the Faribault Foundation according to their website is, to develop, manage, and administer financial resources to promote and enhance the quality of life in the greater Faribault community.
Anderson says, In 2020 for example Community Pride Grants were awarded to the Music in the Park series of concerts in Central Park, IRIS (Infants Remembered in Silence), Paradise Center for the Arts and The Cathedral Cafe.
Community Recovery Committee and IDB to work on East Port-of-Spain Projects
15th January, 2021, Port-of-Spain: Members of the Community Recovery Committee met with two teams from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) – The Housing and Urban Development and Public Management - in a virtual meeting on Tuesday 12
th January, 2021. The meeting explored issues of Public Management and Housing and Urban Development for communities in East Port-of-Spain. The Community Recovery Committee and the IDB are working to develop projects to engage community stakeholders particularly in the areas of physical infrastructure and skills building.
