FRIENDS OF MARION COUNCIL ON AGING TO HOST FUNDRAISER

Thursday, August 19, 2021 - 4:00pm Mark your calendar for An Evening on Sippican Harbor on August 19th, 4 to 7 p.m., hosted by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging.  This outdoor community gala event will help raise funds to complete phase one of the Cushing Community Park Project to develop a 1/8 mile, fully ADA compliant, asphalt walking path that will meander around the property in front of the building at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center and will include the installation of a 26’ x 36’ outdoor pavilion on the site.  These improvements will optimize the use of the property and benefit older adults as well as younger generations in the Marion community for many years to come.  Funds for the walking path have been raised, much of it coming through Community Preservation Act funds, and construction will begin this month.  A leadership donation by the Friends of Marion COA helped realize that funding.

Nearly 70 acres preserved in Franklin as Council votes on land buy

Country Gazette FRANKLIN A decision by the Town Council to invest $4.59 million in open space near the town center is being lauded as an historic land buy for Franklin one preserving forested land that otherwise would have been developed with more than four dozen  homes. Voting unanimously, the nine-member Council has chosen to take advantage of the town s right of first refusal on two parcels of land collectively known as Maple Hill between Lincoln Street and Maple Street totaling about 69.6 acres. “The town has not, to our knowledge, ever exercised the right of first refusal,” Town Administrator Jamie Hellen said.
