Zambia : Kaoma receives SCT funds

Government has released K1.8m to Kaoma District in Western Province for the vulnerable under the Social Cash Transfer (SCT). District Commissioner, Vincent Mutti said the funds will be disbursed to the beneficiaries before the end of this week. Ms Mutti stated that the release of the funds to the vulnerable in Kaoma, is a clear indication of President Edgar Lungu’s commitment in improving the welfare of people countrywide despite their political affiliations. And Kaoma District Social Welfare Officer, Brian Kashimoto said the funds will benefit 5,781 beneficiaries on SCT and that payments would be done bi-monthly with effect from January 2021.

Kaliati Urges Private Entity to Empower Women Kaliati watering a tree Ntcheu, Mana: Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Dr. Patricia Kaliati has urged banks and all private sectors in the country to take a leading role in empowering gender responsive procurement and financial initiatives. The Minister made the call when she presided over a fruit seedling handover to Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries at Lizulu in Ntcheu district which was organized by FDH bank and Press Trust. She said it is high time private entities consider supporting women in financial initiatives regardless of their financial status. “Supporting women in financial activities is very significant as it helps fight poverty that is why we are calling for all private entities to prioritize supporting women in financial activities with the little or without demanding collateral,” she said.

Zambia : Magistrate Court has set April 22 as Judgement day for former Minister of Community Development Emerine Kabanshi

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has set April 22, 2021, as the date for judgement in a case where former Minister of Community Development Emerine Kabanshi is accused of two counts of willful failure to comply with the procedure in relation to the execution of the Social Cash Transfer programme. The judgment was initially scheduled to take place this morning before it was moved. After the prosecution’s case, the suspect was found with a case to answer and placed on her defence. When the matter came up today, Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale adjourned the case to the 22nd April 2021 for judgement.

Zambia : Government to upscale empowerment programmes next year

The government says all social protection programmes namely the Food Security Pack (FSP), Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment and Livelihoods (GEWEL) will next year be up-scaled. Minister of Community Development and Social Services Kampamba Mulenga-Chewe says the government wants to increase the number of beneficiaries under the social protection empowerment programs. Mrs. Mulenga-Chewe says government recognizes the vulnerability of women and girls in the country. Speaking when she paid a courtesy call on Gwembe District Commissioner yesterday, the Minister said government is determined to improve the welfare and livelihoods of women in the country through ambitious empowerment programs.
