New Lead Change campaign focuses on TROY s leadership development

A change is in the air.  Soon, you’ll be seeing billboards, commercials and advertisements about Troy University that feature the new slogan “Lead Change” a slogan that reflects the University’s strong reputation and commitment to building leaders throughout the world.  “One of the most important things a university can do is prepare its students to become leaders,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of Troy University. “We’re in a critical state in America. Daily we talk about the shortage of well-qualified leaders. We see that as a primary mission for Troy University, to prepare leaders who can help guide this nation, and we’re working hard to do that. We take seriously the preparation of our students for leadership roles. We want our students to be servant leaders and that begins with a sense of service and a willingness to give to the communities that will embrace them and that need them.”

Smithville Chamber of Commerce prepares move to new building Downtown

The Smithville Chamber of Commerce congratulates the winners of the 2021 Smithville mayoral, City Council and school board elections. Thank you for your willingness to serve the community. As many of you may know, we just passed the two-year anniversary of the loss of our building to fire in 2019. The silver lining to all of this is our beautiful new building at the end of Main Street; official address: 106 NE First St. We have been so excited to watch the building take shape and we can’t wait to start moving in. We will be closing the chamber on May 19-21 to make the big move into the new building and assist with the completion of the museum. Many big “thank yous” go out to Murphy’s Vintage for their incredible work designing and installing the museum artifacts and to Dave Felker for managing the restoration of the artifacts. It has been an emotional journey and the entire chamber board and staff thanks: Jack Page, Robert Tamble, Bennie Rooks, Scott Saunders, Joanna Morgan
