At a news conference Monday morning, Gloria and other city officials outlined the proposed initiatives being developed by the city s Planning Department to expedite the creation of housing options throughout the city for everyone, regardless of age, income or neighborhood. The housing package is dubbed Homes For All of Us. The initiatives we re unveiling today will help us build more affordable homes faster, and create neighborhoods where San Diegans have choices to get around the city in more sustainable ways, said Mike Hansen, city planning director. Our city staff are focused on finding creative options that will increase access to housing that families, students, seniors and current and future San Diegans can afford.

Parkwood Southlands, a 200-acre piece of land located across from Ma Murray School, is split into four subzones focusing on mixed-use, commercial, institutional, and residential development. The developers are planning for up to 3,400 new homes to be built.
Approximately 53.45 acres of land, or 25 per cent of the neighbourhood, is being reserved for community parks, private parks and recreational opportunities.

“Our vision is to have that beautiful walking network through the Fish Creek coulee. So that when residents are moving in, they have walking trails, and they do have a great place to go. We have really set aside a large amount of land for Park and wildlife corridor; trying to keep that natural feel,” said Wuthrich.

But it might take decades to buy and develop the land. “If we really do believe that this is part of what we need as a community, we should have enough courage and stand up and say, this is what we need, ” Stack said near the end of an hour-long discussion over the land at city council s meeting Monday, July 12.
