Managing editor Tami Roleff explains… California residents who tow a horse trailer can tow it with a Class C license, but only if the trailer weighs 10,000 pounds or less. If it weighs just one pound more, the driver must get a Class A license, which is for commercial truck drivers and requires a medial exam, 10-year-history check, and higher fees. Grove’s bill, SB287, would allow residents to pull their recreational and horse trailers without having to get a Class A license. SB 278 passed with a bipartisan vote of 16 to 0. The measure will next be heard by the Senate Appropriations.
