Five dead, thousands without power in Clackamas County February 16 2021
Deadly snow and ice storm leaves path of destruction in its wake; sewage treatment at 75% capacity
More than 72,000 Clackamas County residents are still without power as the county and Portland General Electric work to recover from one of the worst ice storms in 40 years.
According to Nancy Bush, county disaster management director, many residents in cities such as Canby and Molalla will be seeing their power restored today, but many more residents in rural areas have still yet to see the lights come back on.
Bush told county commissioners Tuesday, Feb. 16, that approximately 250,000 Clackamas County residents were without power at one point over the past three days more than a quarter of the county s total population.

• Metro Garage, 578 N.E. Irving St., open 24 hours.
• Arbor Lodge Severe Weather Shelter, 1952 N. Lombard St., open until 8 a.m. Friday.
In addition, also this year, a warming space, with staff or volunteers on hand, where people won t be able to sleep but can come in and warm up. It s at the Metro Garage, same site as the shelter, and opened Thursday.

TriMet has changed several routes when streets became too slippery to drive safely. The buses that are out have automatic drop down chains that operators can deploy with the push of a button. Both MAX and WES trains do well in snow, although freezing rain and ice on the overhead wire can impact MAX service. TriMet s LIFT paratransit service may be adjusted if road conditions become dangerous.

All transit service is canceled, major roadways are closed. and hundreds of thousands are without power.
A dangerous mix of snow and ice hammered much of the region late Friday and early Saturday, forcing TriMet to cease operations, as well as shut down many roads, and knock out power for hundreds thousands of people. Mass vaccination clinics were also canceled for Saturday and Sunday in Portland.
A Winter Storm Warning remaining in effect at least through 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13.
Early Saturday morning, TriMet announced that all MAX and bus service has been temporarily suspended until further notice due to the weather conditions, including LIFT paratransit service. Portland Streetcar service was halted Friday. The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 84 in the Columbia Gorge, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation has closed Marine Drive.
