Pamplin Media Group - Letters: Political correctness does not change history

I am responding to the Dec. 2 letter written by Andrew Ruff regarding Eleanore Rubinstein. I lived next door to this remarkable woman for 28 years, and spent many, many hours visiting, dining, golfing (until she was 105), and sharing a cocktail or two. To say this article was a disservice to the readers is preposterous. She always believed it was a combination of luck, lifestyle and of course genes played a part. But the article was about Eleanore and her life not her genes. To caution readers not to assume, gleefully they can do the same and live to 107 or more is ridiculous and an insult to the readers. It was a beautiful tribute to an amazing, wonderful woman.

Letters to the editor: evictions and the COVID-19 vaccine

Marc Thiessen wants Biden to give Trump credit for Operation Warp Speed. Perhaps he should.  However, Thiessen never looks at the other side of the coin. Today we are approaching 320,000 deaths from COVID-19 and the average death toll exceeds 3,000 Americans each day. Hospital emergency rooms and intensive care units are overflowing with COVID-19 patients.   Trump knew how deadly COVID-19 was more than 10 months ago and did nothing to slow the pandemic that is engulfing the U.S. right now.   Nor does Thiessen ever mention the damage to our democracy that Trump is engaging in each and every day. Trump keeps spewing conspiracy theories and patent lies about election fraud ad nauseum.

Oregon advocates report uptick in tenant harassment

Oregon advocates report uptick in tenant harassment By Associated Press Share: PORTLAND (AP) Oregon’s eviction moratorium generally appears to be working as intended, holding off evictions that are expected with the coronavirus-related economic crisis. But some tenant advocates have said recently the ban on no-cause evictions has fueled a rise in tenant harassment, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported. Advocates said it’s because landlords who for now can’t evict tenants formally through the courts are instead pressuring tenants until they feel they have to move out. The Community Alliance of Tenants executive director Kim McCarty says landlords mostly are respecting the moratorium now but their phones are ringing off the hook with tenants who are confused about their future.
