Council plants gardens in Waltham Abbey Ninefields estate

Two sensory gardens have been planted on the Ninefields estate. Earlier this month residents joined Epping Forest District Council officers from the Estates and Land, and Community Culture and Wellbeing teams in planting hundreds of flowers to create the new gardens. The move followed requests from residents for help brightening up the area between local shops and the new Waltham Abbey Leisure Centre. The council says the gardens aim to create a better environment and “discourage anti-social behaviour”. A council spokesperson said: “Visitors to the gardens can enjoy the tranquil formation of pale blues, deep purples and the blend of greens. July will be the best time to see the flowers in full bloom and inhale their scent. One garden has an eye-catching central star feature included as a focal point of interest. Both gardens provide a haven for bees, butterflies and other insects of pollen and nectar.”
