Call for nominations of people living with HIV, key populations and other affected communities to join the multistakeholder task force for the high-level meeting on HIV

To ensure the involvement of civil society and ensure an open, transparent and participatory process, UNAIDS is forming, by the end of March, a multistakeholder task force comprised of representatives of civil society and the private sector. The task force will advise UNAIDS on the format, theme and programme of the multistakeholder hearing and will help to identify speakers

The government has spent a significant percentage of the country’s financial resources to avoid a shortage of essential items against the backdrop of harsh international sanctions. Its fear is that social unrest could flare up and spread, threatening the whole political system. The latest US sanctions have placed further pressure on the government’s outdated approach, coinciding with the additional negative impact of external variables such as the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the decline in oil prices and the depletion of foreign currencies.

Ghana: U S Partners With Ghana to Strengthen Public Health Emergency Communication

+ The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), together with the government of Ghana launched the National Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Risk Communication and Social Mobilization during Public Health Emergencies and a message guide during the annual International One Health Day event. One Health brings together government and donor partners across various sectors to focus on the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment and to address the threat of zoonotic diseases, or diseases which are transmitted from animals to humans. The deliverables announced at the event are the result of USAID’s partnership with the government of Ghana. The SOP outlines the coordination structures and reporting chain of command for public health emergencies from the national, regional, district, and sub-district levels. The message guide provides guidance for accurate and timely messaging and social and behavior change

From HIV survivor to COVID-19 responder

unaids.org UNAIDS Ingrid Bretón learned that she was living with HIV when she was 19 years old. It was 1994 and HIV treatment was not yet available in the Dominican Republic. HIV treatment helped changed the trajectory of her life. With the guidance of her doctor, José Román, she became the first woman living with HIV in La Romana known to have given birth to an HIV-free baby. As she continued treatment it occurred to her that she was perfectly healthy and could live a more meaningful life.
