Sidney Council views virtual capital tour By Sheryl Roadcap - sroadcap@sidneydailynews.com SIDNEY A virtual tour of the city of Sidney’s 2021 capital projects was presented during the Sidney City Council workshop meeting Monday evening. Council members viewed the city’s annual update on the improvement projects this year for the parks and recreation, fire and emergency services, streets and utilities departments, as well as the Sidney Airport/public transport. Parks and Recreation Director Duane Gaier kicked off the tour with a PowerPoint on the improvements at the parks. Seven light poles at Custenborder Field were identified as needing replaced. The cost to replace seven wood poles with seven new wood poles, Gaier said, is $86,085. The inspection cost of the poles in 2020 was $1,775.

Donation match for The Mercy Mission House SIDNEY The Mercy Mission House Emergency Shelter is sharing that a donor is going to match $1 for $1 up to $50,000 between May 1 and Dec. 31, 2021. These matching dollars will help MMH reach its capital campaign goal of $1.3 million. The Father’s Table Foundation is the donor which will be matching donations. In addition to the $50,000 in matching dollars, they are also donating $50,000. The Father’s Table Foundation’s mission is “To glorify God by helping meet the immediate needs of women and children worldwide and equipping them to be able to meet their future needs.”

In response to this unique situation, the YMCA quickly transitioned to a Pandemic Child Care for families of medical personnel, essential employees, and first responders,” said David O’Leary, the YMCA’s bew CEO. “We implemented all required CDC and Health Department Guidelines in order to provide a safe environment for the children, staff, and parents. We had record attendance in our summer day camp for school-age students despite the unusual schedule created due to the ongoing pandemic.”
