The Lagos, Ogun, Delta, Enugu and Akwa Ibom state governments on Friday commenced the vaccination of frontline health workers in the state against the deadly coronavirus as part of efforts to reduce the spread of the pandemic.
This is just as the Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Delta counterpart, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, received the first jab of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Also, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Governor AbdulRamon AbdulRazaq took their first jabs.
Sanwo-Olu, who received the vaccine on Friday at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, along with is deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, said there was no reason for anyone to panic over the desirability of the vaccine.

Experts have called on the federal and state governments to accord more legal, political and financial rights to Nigerian women as critical players in the national development.
Speaking at an event organised by the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Women’s Wing) to mark International Women’s Day in Lagos on Friday, they urged women to challenge the barriers to socioeconomic and political growth.
In a lecture titled, ‘Women, Family Law and Property Rights,’ a chartered arbitrator, Dr Adeyemi Agbelusi, said despite the right to freedom from discrimination and the right to own property enshrined in Sections 42 and 43, respectively, of the 1999 Constitution, property right was an area many women were worried about.

The Nigerian Ports Authority has designated 17 trucks parks as batching points for all trucks doing business at the Lagos ports.
According to a statement signed by the Assistant General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications Division of the NPA, Ibrahim Nasiru, on Friday, the categorisation of the parks will deepen the electronic truck call-app.
The authority designated FORU Truck Terminal, Sodik Garage, Anet Construction and Development Concept, Nigerian Army Properties Truck Park, Bomarah Investment Ltd, JOF Nigeria Ltd, Hog – Amazon Ltd and Spezial Bau Limited for Flatbeds / Export Containers.
The capacity of the eight truck parks range from 500 to 100 with a combined capacity of 2,100 trucks.

The police have begun investigation into the shooting of I5-year-old girl, Omolayo Adaranijo while awaiting a commercial motorcycle with her mother, 45-year-old Omolayo Adaranijo.
The single mother on Friday narrated how a gunman shot her daughter beside her on a street in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Wednesday.
Adaranijo said the incident had left her in trauma and confined her daughter, a senior secondary school 3 pupil, to bed at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
The woman said, “We (my daughter and I) were at Basiri junction in Ado Ekiti around 7.56pm on that day. We were awaiting a commercial motorbike to take us to Ifesowapo, Better Life, where I live, when a man suddenly alighted from motorbike and opened fire on my daughter. He shot her four times. The man immediately mounted the waiting motorbike and fled the scene.

Kwara United’s Brazilian winger Lucas Alves has hailed the Nigeria Professional Football League, saying it’s competitive and blessed with talented players.
Alves, who last played for American side, Seahorses LA, joined the Ilorin-based club during the last transfer window ahead of the 2020/21 season.
“The Nigerian football league is very good, very competitive with a lot of good players. And I can say that the players are good enough to compete anywhere in the world,” Alves told
