Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said it was critical to stop what he called the emerging second peak of Covid with decisive steps including micro-containment zones, increased testing and enforcement of restrictions like masks, at a meeting with Chief Ministers amid a worrying spike in Covid cases in some states.

The death count due to the disease increased to 1,58,725 with 118 more fatalities being recorded in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Odisha reports 65 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 3,38,121
Odisha s COVID-19 caseload mounted to 3,38,121 on Saturday as 65 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said. The state during the day registered recovery of 70 more patients taking the number of cured persons to 3,35,569, which is 99.24 per cent of the caseload. Odisha s case fatality ratio (CFR) stands at 0.56 per cent while the state s positivity rate is 3.93 per cent, he said.
