Two men drown on Keith Lake near Sabine Pass

Two people drowned on Wednesday in a fishing accident that occurred on Keith Lake, near Sabine Pass, south of Port Arthur. KFDM reported that a witness said one of the men was trying to unhook a cast net and fell into the water. The witness said the current kept pulling the man farther away from shore. He said the man with the net called for help, and another man, who was crabbing nearby, jumped in and tried to assist, but was also pulled away from the shore. Port Arthur firemen arrived at the scene and tried unsuccessfully to perform CPR on both men. However, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam, III.
