EQT commits to seeking natural gas certification under Equitable Origin, MiQ standards

Pittsburgh-based EQT Corporation announced Thursday it is committed to seeking independent certification of a majority of its produced natural gas under Equitable Origin and MiQ certification standards.
The certification process is expected to commence this month and is anticipated to be obtained later this year. EQT’s more than 200 well pads located in Greene and Washington counties in Pennsylvania would get certification under the proposed project. Those well pads produce approximately 4.0 Bcf/day. EQT said the certifications will expand their growing portfolio of certified natural gas and join a previously announced project with Project Canary to certify gas produced from two well pads in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The certification process is expected to commence this month, and it is anticipated that certification from Equitable Origin and MiQ will be obtained later this year.

EQT, North America’s largest natural gas producer, said April 15 it would commit to have the majority of its production in the Marcellus shale basin certified as responsibly-sourced gas (RSG) by the end of this year.
That announcement came two days after Chesapeake Energy said it would work with Project Canary to pilot RSG production at select well pads in the Marcellus and Haynesville shale basins.
