There aren’t many occasions where I’d say no to a glass of pink sparkling wine. They’re just as great for day drinking as for an after-dinner nightcap. And they’re underrated for the role they can play when poured into cocktails. But it can be hard to justify using them in a mixed drink when you’ve paid a lot for the bottle. SLINGERLANDS The Reverend Dr. Hugh Gould Nevin Jr. of Slingerlands died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 one week shy of his 88th birthday after a battle with cancer.
“Hugh was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Hugh Gould Nevin, a successful banker, and Eda McCoy Nevin, a vibrant Wellesley College grad,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Both his father and mother were descendants of the original Scots-Irish settlers of western Pennsylvania. (Hugh had a passionate interest in family genealogy, his history of the Nevin family name becoming one of his two published books.) Pittsburgh also left its mark on Hugh as a life-long Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan!”

MONTPELIER â Now that leaders are sworn in, speeches have been made and committees have been assigned, Vermontâs state government can really roll up its sleeves and get to work.
First and foremost on the list is a Town Meeting bill that will allow Vermont communities to hold the event safely, or potentially reschedule it.
Members of the state House and Senate Government Operations committees have already been working on H. 48. The bill assures towns will be able to move the date of their town meeting, mail ballots to all registered voters, and allow the Secretary of Stateâs office to âorder or permit supplemental elections procedures related to these 2021 annual municipal meeting provisions.â

2020 has been an earth-shattering year for the American wine world. And it would have been even without the coronavirus.
Major fires plowed through some of California’s most prestigious terroir, destroying wineries and threatening an unprecedented volume of wine grapes with the insidious malady of smoke taint. The nationwide reckoning with racial injustice forced the wine world to confront its inequities in a new, stark way and then allegations of sexual assault within the country’s most elite sommelier organization forced a similar reexamination of its deeply ingrained sexism.
