According to a recent release, scammers are targeting older populations who may be awaiting a COVID-19 vaccine. The release reminds residents that while some may receive a call from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other public health officials notifying them of exposure to the virus, they will never need to know your insurance or other financial information. “Scammers rapidly alter their tactics and adapt their schemes to the changing landscape, and we anticipate that they will leverage the COVID-19 vaccine to prey on unsuspecting beneficiaries. But this year with the COVID-19 pandemic hitting Long Islanders hard, there is even more of a need for both donations and volunteers. The local organization, Branches Long Island, is one of many that have been working over the past year to help provide community outreach and much-needed resources across both Nassau and Suffolk counties. The group, like many others, has seen a tremendous increase in the amount of Long Island residents in need of resources.
