Political party leaders have responded to the latest NHDC election results

The results of the election for North Herts District Council means that no single party has overall control of the authority - and the leader lost his seat.
The council was previously a joint administration between Labour and the Liberal Democrats with 20 Conservative seats, 15 Labour and Cooperative seats and 11 Liberal Democrat seats.
It now consists of 23 Conservative seats, 15 Labour and Co-operative seats and 11 Liberal Democrat seats
Mirroring 2019, two candidates from the Conservatives and Lib Dems had to draw straws to determine the outcome for one ward, after both receiving 727 votes each.

A date has been set for the release of the OPP Costing Proposal in Dryden.
Staff and Council will hear the details at a Special Open Council Meeting on Monday, May 17.
Once Council receives the OPP’s Proposal, they have a maximum of 6 months to make their decision.
The report comes almost two years to the day that the first OPP proposal was shot down by Council.
The decision to proceed with another review was approved by a 6-1 vote on October 26, 2020 and moved forward with the awarding of a 35 thousand dollar contract on November 23.

Tri-Township arena in Mount Brydges and West Middlesex Memorial Centre in Strathroy could become the casualties of the process as potential big recreational facility changes could be happening over the next 5 years.
Strathroy-Caradoc published a news release Thursday stating that Council will be considering a Recreation Facility Infrastructure Renewal Strategy proposed by Consultant Nustadia Recreation moving potentially towards two community recreation hubs. The Municipality says these hubs respond to public and user group feedback, community census data, industry trends, and facility condition assessments.
The report proposes new hubs in both Strathroy and Mount Brydges. For Strathroy, a 3rd ice pad at Gemini Sportsplex, and a twin gymnasium with elevated indoor walking track in addition to an artificial turf and lighted soccer field all at the Gemini.

A change in policy stance is unlikely, said Mark Wall, a chief economist with Deutsche Bank, in a research note. A decision whether or not to maintain the new faster pace of PEPP purchases will be made after a joint assessment of financing conditions and the outlook for inflation at the Council Meeting on June 10, he added, suggesting no updates for the meeting on Thursday this week.

In the wake of the pandemic, the ECB launched its Pandemic Emergency Purchase Program, or PEPP, which buys bonds in the region to stimulate lending and fuel an economic recovery. It left that program unchanged at its meeting in March, with the target purchase amount still at 1.85 trillion euros ($2.21 trillion) which is due to last until March 2022.
