ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor is moving forward with developing an unarmed public safety response program to have non-police professionals respond to certain 911 calls.
City Council voted unanimously in favor of the idea Monday night, April 5, directing City Administrator Tom Crawford to work with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and others to try to establish a program by the end of 2021.

ANN ARBOR, MI Facing criticisms from constituents is part of the job of being an elected official, but in Ann Arbor some argue it’s reached a disturbing level.
Some City Council members report feeling personally harassed on social media and elsewhere, and in some cases threatened, prompting some to file police reports.
Council members have shared those concerns at recent meetings and in interviews, acknowledging they’ve turned to police, one reporting alleged death threats.
In a particularly bizarre case, a council member reported someone placing a dried pig fetus outside his business. It’s unclear if it was related to his work on council.

ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor’s population is mostly white, and with high median incomes and housing prices to match, many who can afford to live here are doing pretty well financially.
But city leaders hope to move the needle on increasing diversity of the city’s residents in the coming years, creating more opportunity for people of color to live here. That’s now officially listed among the city’s strategic objectives.

Home builder Toll Brothers is seeking city approval to develop a 56-home subdivision at 660 Earhart Road, abutting U.S. 23.
The proposed site is the wooded area between the Greenhills School baseball field to the north and the Concordia University baseball field to the south.

ANN ARBOR, MI Amid the financial hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ann Arbor is instituting new poverty guidelines to allow more low-income residents to seek exemptions from property taxes.
City Council voted unanimously this week to approve the 2021 tax exemption guidelines, setting new income limits at 2.2 times federal poverty levels, and raising the personal asset limit from $25,000 to $50,000.
