Te Ao Māori Becomes Compulsory In Law Degrees

Kinda fucked up that I did a whole law degree where tikanga was not compulsory Tikanga and te ao Māori will now be taught in all of the core papers of a law degree, after a unanimous vote on Friday 7 May by the Council of Legal Education. The Council of Legal Education sets the requirements for all LLB courses in Aotearoa.  President of Te Roopū Whai Pūtake (Otago Māori Law Students Association), Evy Ngawhika, said: “We are excited about this momentum towards recognising the first laws of Aotearoa within the legal curriculum. This is a move towards which many have been working on for a long time.”

Boko Haram Scare: Law School DG Insensitive, Says NBA Chairman

Eromosele Abiodun and Nume Ekeghe The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, Mr. Bath Aguegbodo, has accused the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Ciroma (SAN), of being insensitive to the danger students billed to write their examination next week at the Bwari campus of the school would be exposed to due to the scare of bandits’ attacks. He said the students should be allowed to write the examinations scheduled to start from Monday at other campuses due to the reported security scare in the Bwari area. Aguegbodo stated this yesterday when he appeared on ‘The Morning Show,’ a breakfast programme on ARISE NEWS Channel, the broadcast arm of THISDAY Newspapers.

Reprieve as Cabinet approves Bills to ease legal training

THE STANDARD EDUCATION Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga poses for a photo with newly admitted lawyers to the bar at the Supreme Court [Tabitha Otwori, Standard] Thousands of law students now have a new lease of life following a Cabinet approval of two Bills that introduce new players to offer post-graduate training.   Further, the new Bills seek to review the admission requirements for future lawyers and law practitioners. This cures the cyclic wars which have pitted Kenya School of Law and students seeking to admission for post-graduate training known as the Advocates Training Programme (ATP). MPs now hold the handkerchief that will wipe out tears of thousands of students barred from practicing law after graduating from various universities.
