In the face of prevailing COVID – 19 pandemic the Government has taken every possible measure to provide all required facilities notwithstanding the health related restrictions imposed to ensure safety of the public. As the tourism sector is a vital component of the national economy of this country, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa called on the entrepreneurs of the field to get ready to embark on a new journey by overcoming challenges.
President made these remarks during a discussion with the representatives of the tourism sector held at the Presidential Secretariat today (17). Heads of line institutes in the tourist industry and leading entrepreneurs were present.

Jayasumana s new appointment comes in addition to his existing portfolio of State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation.
The appointment has been made as Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi is still receiving medical attention after contracting the coronavirus last month.
She was among seven Parliamentarians to have contracted COVID-19, after a number of Health Ministry staff were reported to have been infected.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed an Acting Health Minister in the absence of Health Minister Wanniarachchi.

State Minister of Pharmaceuticals, Supplies and Regulatory Affairs Channa Jayasumana stated that preliminary work has been initiated to import the Russian-made Sputnik vaccine into Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile the official Sputnik V Twitter account announced Wednesday that Argentina had officially registered the Covid-19 vaccine.
Argentina Health Minister Gines González García tweeted Wednesday that an Aerolineas flight has arrived in Moscow and will bring back 300,000 of the first doses of Russia s Sputnik V vaccine.
