Vice-chancellors have questioned a move by the Ministry of Education to set up a team to investigate financial challenges facing their institutions, terming it a waste of time.
The VCs argue that the problems facing institutions of higher learning have over the years been adequately deliberated by stakeholders, documented and suggestions made on way forward.
The VCs say their last meeting in Mombasa, which was attended by officials from the National Treasury and Ministry of Education, and MPs drew solid action plans, complete with timelines for implementation.

President Uhuru Kenyatta s ally David Murathe has promised to spill the beans on the probe involving a Chinese firm that won a Sh4 billion tender at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa).
A day after members of the National Assembly Public Investment Committee (PIC) linked him to Kilig Ltd, a firm under investigation in the Sh7.8 billion Kemsa procurement scam for Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to mitigate against Covid-19 pandemic, Murathe is fighting back.
On Friday, he told The Saturday Standard he will appear before the Abdulswamad Nassir-led committee to clarify his alleged involvement with the company that he was just a guarantor and did not get the contract.

The process to recruit four commissioners to the national electoral agency, 15 months to the General Election, will commence on Thursday.
This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta officially declared vacancies of four commissioners to the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), who resigned following the disputed 2017 presidential elections, which saw the Supreme Court nullify the August 8 poll results.
In a gazette notice dated April 14, the President has effectively kick-started the tedious recruitment process of replacing the commissioners. However, this exercise is preceded by the appointment of a seven-member selection panel as stipulated in the IEBC Act, 2020.
