Penobscot Bay Pilot has posed questions to each candidate running for the open seat on the Northport Select Board providing the opportunity for the public to better understand their positions on issues. Breanna Pinkham Bebb and Ann Frenning Kossuth are each vying for the seat that has been held by Selectman Zack Hollingshead. The winner of the April 14 election will hold the seat until the remainder of Hollingshead’s term expires in June, at which point another election for the seat will be held to determine who holds the seat for three years. Please provide a biography of yourself.  Although raised in Massachusetts, I spent short weekends, long weekends, school and summer vacations at our home on Beech Hill in Northport. My parents originally built the house in 1965 as a retirement place to be near my mother’s Midcoast roots, and they moved here full-time in 1990.

Please provide a biography of yourself.  I was born in Downeast Maine and am a proud graduate of the University of Maine at Machias, where I took the long path to my degree working multiple jobs and mostly paying as I went.

Fri, 01/22/2021 - 1:00pm Dana Merrill Whitten, M.D. Dana Merrill Whitten, M.D., 81, died on January 19, 2021 after a short illness. He served the children and parents of Waldo County, Maine for over forty years as a pediatrician, a calm and steady voice in times of need, and as a source of comfort. He was an athlete, a passionate sailor and gardener who loved to read, and was a pillar of his community. He will be greatly missed. Born October 28, 1939 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, Dana was the son of Dr. James Francis Whitten and Ernestine Merrill Whitten. Both parents were from Maine, his father from Farmington and his mother from Machias. Dana’s father served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in North Africa during World War II and returned from the war to serve the people of Amesbury as a physician.
