US: Quest Proganics comes to retail
Dillons Food Stores, a division of The Kroger Co., has rolled out Quest Proganics, a newly developed process designed to deliver significant diversion levels of organic waste away from landfills, at its stores, with the solution set to expand to other Kroger banners. Quest Resource Holding Corp. aims to bring Quest Proganics to grocery stores across the country.
US: Sales growth moderates at Publix in Q1
Publix Supermarkets grew revenue and same-store sales in the first quarter even as the grocery sales boom ignited by the coronavirus pandemic wanes. The grocery chain s sales for the 3 months ended March 27 were $11.7bln, a 3.9% increase from $11.2bln in 2020. Same-store sales for quarter increased 2.4%. The discount supermarket will investigate closing the loop, such as sending broken pallets to be chipped into garden mulch and then sold as a Special Buy. But to reach the zero milestone, Aldi will first focus on food with a goal to send zero food waste to landfill by 2023. It will include an expansion to its food rescue program to reuse out of date goods for animals and when the food is deemed not suitable for human consumption.
