Collectif Escargo, Sudbury 2050, McEwen School of Architecture

Article content The way Collectif Escargo sees things, the city core will be even greener and more connected to its roots in 30 years. The Canadian collective, which includes Montreal architects Karyna St-Pierre, Julie Parenteau, Emilie Labrousse and Pierre-Yves Diehl, were announced this month as the big winner of Sudbury 2050, an urban design competition organized by the McEwen School of Architecture that asked entrants to envision Sudbury’s core in 2050. The competition received 100 entries from 28 countries. Whittling that list to 13 finalists was not easy, but the winners represent some thoughtful, provocative and beautifully logical ideas that could prove to be transformative.
