Five coronavirus patients were killed in a fire at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur city on Saturday,
The Times of India reported.
The fire broke out on the first floor of the hospital, where 34 patients were admitted. Nine of them were in the intensive care unit. A short circuit is believed to have caused the fire.
A supervisor saw smoke coming out of the intensive care unit and informed the hospital authorities, who alerted the police about the incident. The fire brigade and hospital staff rescued the patients. It took about an hour to extinguish the fire, the newspaper reported.

RAIPUR: Four coronavirus patients were killed in a fire at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Chhattisgarh s Raipur city, police said on Sunday.
The fire broke out at Raipur s Rajdhani hospital on Saturday morning, which was caused due to short-circuit in the electrical wiring, which spread throughout the hospital. As per reports, one patient died due to fire injuries and the other three due to suffocation.
A staff member of the hospital had seen smoke coming out from the ICU and immediately informed the hospital authorities who called the fire brigade. Thirty-four patients were admitted to the hospital; nine were admitted to the ICU, officials said. Firefighters and the hospital staff rescued the patients and it took almost two hours to extinguish the fire.

Authorities have ordered an investigation after four coronavirus patients were killed in a fire at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Chhattisgarh s Raipur city, police said on Sunday.
Raipur Collector Bharathi Dasan has ordered an investigation into the incident. Officials have been directed to conduct safety check at all coronavirus hospitals in the city.
The fire broke out at Raipur s Rajdhani hospital on Saturday, police said. Four persons died in the incident, one from fire injuries and three due to suffocation, a police official said, adding a case of negligence will be registered against the owners of the hospital.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday expressed his condolences to the families of people who were killed in a fire incident in Chhattisgarh s Raipur. Taking to Twitter, the Congress leader wrote: The news of a fire incident in the ICU of a hospital in Raipur is sad. My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. He also made an appeal to the state government that all assistance should be given to the bereaved families during this difficult time. At least five persons were killed after a fire broke out in Raipur s Rajdhani hospital on Saturday. Other patients have been shifted to other hospitals.
