Raghu Ganesh, accused in the Sattankulam custodial death case of trader P. Jayaraj and his son J. Benicks, has moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking to set aside an order passed by the trial court. In his criminal revision petition, Raghu Ganesh said the trial in the case was pending before the First Additional Sessions Court in Madurai. He had filed a transfer petition before the Supreme Court contending that intervention and monitoring of the case by the Madras High Court would not be in the interest of a free and fair trial. The petition was admitted by the Supreme Court and notice was ordered.

Following technical snag in the EVMs in two polling booths in St. Michael’s Primary School in Tharuvaikulam under the Ottapidaaram (reserved) constituency, voters had to wait in long queue. While polling commenced at 7.30 a.m. in one of the booths, voting could be started only around 9.15 a.m. Similar problems delayed voting for 30 minutes in the TDTA High School at Christiyanagaram near Udangudi in Tiruchendur constituency, panchayat union primary school at Gnaniyarkudiyiruppu near Sattankulam under Srivaikundam constituency, RC Middle School in Sattankulam. The delay irked the waiting voters and the political party agents as well.
