Vidit Gujrathi qualifies for Chess World Cup 2021

Nashik (Maharashtra) [India], June 3 (ANI): Vidit Gujrathi has qualified for the Chess World Cup 2021 on the basis of his rating. The mega-event is all set to take place in Russia from July 10.
With this direct qualification, 26-year-old GM Vidit has become the 4th Indian to qualify for the World Cup 2021. This is his third World Cup appearance, previously being in 2017 and 2019.
He joins GM Harikrishna, GM Aravindh Chidambaram, and GM Iniyan P for the men s World Cup squad. As of now, GM Harika Dronavali, GM Koneru Humpy, WGM Bhakti Kulkarni, WGM R.Vaishali, and IM Padmini Rout have qualified for the women s World Cup team. However, the All India Chess Federation (AICF) will announce the final list of players by next week.

Theekshana Denuwan defeated Kazakhstan Women’s Grandmaster Dauletova Gulmira in round six of the Asian Continental Hybrid Chess Championships, continued yesterday.
Theekshana’s victory was more significant as his opponent Gulmira has a standard rating of 2,285 and is an Olympic Bronze Medallist having more experience.
Theekshana obtained three points with this result and also climbed to the 46th position.
Meanwhile, Skipper Raninidu Liyanage also recorded a victory in this sixth-round while Susal de Silva and Minul Doluweera had to be satisfied with a draw in their respective games. However, Susal was able to steal half a point with a draw against Chinese International Master Lou Yiping (2,472) who participated even in the Chess World Cup 2013.
