Just before 8:30 pm on Saturday, April 24th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Mary Street for an accident involving a vehicle striking a utility pole. When police arrived, the 2011 Mercedes had its front wheel up off the ground and the pole was lodged halfway through the front of the car. Live power lines were severed and the neighborhood was without power for several hours. The driver, 27-year old Kole Kenan of Galesburg told police he was texting at the time of the crash. Police observed Kenan’s slow speech and “droopy” eyes, and witnesses told GPD he threw a cup from the vehicle at one point, according to police reports. An empty vodka bottle was located in the center console of the car. Kenan fell asleep while officers were transporting him to the Public Safety Building where the majority of a field sobriety test was conducted. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two men from the area in an incident with an alleged stolen vehicle this afternoon. 29 year old Raymond A Summers, Jr. of Jacksonville and 29 year old Cory J. Dodson of Winchester were arrested while in possession of an alleged stolen vehicle at 1:24 this afternoon by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies. Summers has been cited for Driving While License Suspended, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Theft over $10,000. His passenger, Dodson was also arrested for Possession of Stolen Firearm, No Valid FOID Card, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Fleeing or Eluding Police. Both men are being lodged at the Schuyler County Jail without bond.

Galesburg Police on Thursday, April 1st responded to the parking lot in the 900 block of West Dayton Street for reports of a subject possibly passed out in the driver’s seat of a van.
Police arrived and located the van in a handicap spot of the apartment complex parking lot – the engine was running, the driver’s side door was wide open, and there appeared to be vomit on the ground and down the front of the driver. Police woke the sleeping driver who was identified as 25-year old Trae Redd of Galesburg. Redd admitted to drinking alcohol and agreed to a Field Sobriety Test which he then failed. An open bottle of Hennessey was located inside the van. Redd was placed under arrest and transported to the Public Safety Building where he provided a breath sample that came back with a BAC of .162. Redd was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, DUI with a BAC of .08 or higher, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

A Galesburg man was arrested on a variety of charges after a traffic stop Saturday night. 45-year old Derrick Wandick, and his passenger: 27-year old Pierre Daniel were stopped by GPD on Saturday night after crossing over the white lane line on West Main Street. Police discovered that Wandick was driving on a suspended license and was placed under arrest. An open bottle of Hennessey in the back seat was found, which Daniel admitted to being his, and he was cited for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol. A search of Wandick turned up a little over a gram of suspected cannabis, and a taser in his front pocket. Inside the car, officers located another open bottle of beer, a pair of BB guns that resembled real firearms, and a gun holster in the driver-side door. Wandick was charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Weapon for the taser, cited for Driving on a Suspended License, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, and warned about improper lane usage.
