05:00 AM EST Share The theme of this year’s annual Law Day celebration declares that the rule of law is the “bedrock of American rights and liberties in times of calm and unrest alike.”
Law Day is the annual opportunity to understand how the law contributes to freedom, justice and equality.
In 1957, American Bar Association President Charles Rhyne proposed an observance to celebrate the legal system. A year later, President Dwight Eisenhower was the first to proclaim Law Day to be a national dedication to the principle of government under law.
In 1961, Congress, in a joint resolution, designated May 1 as the official date to observe Law Day, codifying that it “is a special day of celebration by the people of the United States … in appreciation of their liberties and the reaffirmation of their loyalty to the United States and of their rededication to the ideals of equality and justice under law in their relations with each other and with other countries;
Here in New Mexico and around the nation we have been undergoing something called âbail reformâ for many years. In fact, as early as 1966, our country has had an ongoing movement to reform bail, so it is nothing really new.

The purpose of these reforms is to improve our justice system by assuring court appearances by those who are charged with a crime and maximizing the safety of communities. The law of the land has long recognized that most people who are arrested are entitled to be released from custody while awaiting trial.
Some may dispute this, but from my perspective our journey with bail reform in New Mexico began to accelerate in 2014 with a New Mexico Supreme Court decision titled State of New Mexico v. Walter Ernest Brown.

In my last post, “Real Estate Alphabet Soup: X Is for X-factor” I continued my primer on the “alphabet soup” of real estate. This post continues to stir the “alphabet soup” with the letter Y.

A “yard” may also be a paved or unpaved storage or maintenance yard surrounding buildings in a business or indu
GLO With Pride!
I decided to start my piece today on a positive note, since this administration believes that many of us, especially the media, thrive on harping only on the negatives in Nigeria. Last week, I mentioned the fact that many foreigners except the Chinese, are divesting and leaving Nigeria. This is true, but, I failed to take cognisance of the fact that there are still Nigerians who have invested just as much as the foreigners in our dear country, and have done well in showcasing the fact that we do have successful industries and conglomerates in Nigeria. They are doing their bit to harness the resources of the nation, create employment and promote national prosperity. Telecoms giant, Globacom Limited aka GLO, founded in 2003 by Dr Mike Adenuga GCON, is one of them. GLO is a brand Ambassador for Nigeria, as it has spread its operations to other African countries like Ghana, Republic of Benin and Ivory Coast. In a country that is grappling with an alarming rate of unemplo
