Family and friends of Samwel Uko met in Regina’s Wascana Park on Friday for a memorial commemorating the first anniversary of 20-year-old Uko’s death, which raised concerns about mental health care in the province.
The small group gathered near the Legislative Building then proceeded on a walk to the north side of Wascana Lake, where a memorial had been built. They sang, prayed, held a moment of silence and laid roses by the shrine.

CARSON CITY (KTNV) â The legislative building in Carson City today updated its COVID-19 protocols and starting May 20 the building will reopen to Nevadans without an appointment.

More than half of the untested sexual assault kits recently accounted for in law enforcement evidence lockers across North Carolina have now been tested or are awaiting testing at private labs, Attorney General Josh Stein said on Tuesday.
Giving an update with legislators on the implementation of a 2019 law that set aside $6 million to test many of the kits, Stein said whittling down the backlog has resulted in at least 40 arrests, delivering justice to survivors of sexual assault. Stein said another $9 million is needed from legislators to eliminate the backlog entirely.

Jeff Hoiness isn’t one to complain, but the Saskatchewan grain farmer of three decades says this year might be the driest he’s ever seen.
“I’ve never talked to as many neighbours that are worried about seeding canola and shallow-seeded crops at this time in my 30 years,” Hoiness said. “Even the most optimistic of us are, I think, quite concerned. And realistically, we should be.”
