Senate confirms Harwell to TVA board | Nashville Post

Former state House speaker will serve until 2024 Beth Harwell The U.S. Senate last week voted 59-25 to confirm former state House Speaker Beth Harwell to the board of the Tennessee Valley Authority. The Republican stepped down from the House in 2018 as she unsuccessfully ran for governor. She held her Nashville seat for three decades. Her term at the TVA runs until May 2024. Retiring U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander said he was “delighted” by the confirmation vote. “Beth is one of our state’s most distinguished citizens,” Alexander said. “Throughout her time in the Tennessee House of Representatives, and as Speaker of the House, Beth has worked with the TVA on several issues. She understands how important it is for TVA to continue to provide cheap, clean, reliable electricity for homes and businesses throughout the seven-state Tennessee Valley region.”
