Representational Image ROHTAK: A couple who planned to marry was shot dead in broad daylight in Haryana s Rohtak district on Wednesday in a suspected case of honour killing, police said. The parents of the man, aged around 25, and the woman, who was nearly 27 years old, were to meet for working out some modalities for a court marriage. However, the woman s family did not turn up, deputy superintendent of police Sajjan Singh said. The couple who were supposed to join them were shot dead when they had reached a place near the Maharshi Dayanand University. The man s brother who was accompanying him was seriously wounded, the DSP said.

The boy’s family had alleged that he was murdered for a human sacrifice by the tantrik but police have ruled out human sacrifice as the motive behind the murder. The 16-year-old tantrik was arrested from Nawali village in Malakhera town of Alwar district, 150 km from the state capital Jaipur. Alwar SP Tejaswini Gautam told reporters that the tantrik had confessed to his crime after sustained questioning. The tatnrik said he had taken the boy to a field on Saturday on the pretext of showing him some dead peacocks. At the farm, the tantrik strangulated the boy.

On Sunday, some locals found the boy’s body in a farm in Malakheda, 150 km from the state capital Jaipur. They were shocked to see the body with ears and nose chopped off and the nails pulled out.
