The complaint in the FIR registered by Marine Drive police against former top Mumbai cop Param Bir Singh tells a sordid story of a man, Sanjay Punamiya, who could predict the near future.
On Thursday, South Mumbai based businessman Punamiya was arrested along with one more person in the extortion case registered against Singh and five other police officers.
While the complainant in the case, Shyam Sunder Agarwal, and Punamiya have been at loggerheads, the latter is alleged to be close to Singh. In March this year, a meeting was held between Punamiya and Agarwal to sort out the issues and find an amicable solution to a case that was registered in Juhu police station by Punamiya against Agarwal. This 3.5-hour-long meeting was tape recorded by Agarwal and it forms the basis of the FIR against Singh and others.
