Rhyl High Street pedestrian zone is being ignored amid increase in traffic

DRIVERS are ignoring a traffic order on Rhyl High Street and putting pedestrians at risk. Concerns have been raised over an increase in the number of vehicles using a route from the top of the High Street, leading into Sussex Street to join with Queens Street. A vehicle restriction order covers the route from 10am and 5pm. Denbighshire County Council said it is working with North Wales Police has increased enforcement officer patrols to monitor traffic in the area amid concerns over pedestrian safety. Brian Jones, lead member for transport, said: “We are fully aware of an ongoing issue since the beginnings of the pandemic involving vehicle drivers ignoring this restriction order covering this pedestrian zone. The council has received reports of an increase in delivery vehicles and also members of the public not adhering to the restriction in place.
