Valve is trying to bring something new into the market, with the recent interview of Gabe Newell which announced the possibility of Steam Console plans to a high school Q&A in New Zealand. The CEO has been living overseas for over a year now and has divulged a truly crucial piece of information for Steam s growth and its games to come to other platforms.

Most game developers and publishers already offer cross-compatibility for the different games in the PC and console platforms including Fortnite, Call of Duty Warzone, Smite, Star Wars Battlefront, and more. These games would mostly rely on their developers for cross-platform compatibility, and may not be even that of a crossplay.
Gabe Newell recently spoke to students at Sancta Maria College. While there, he dropped a nugget of news regarding Steam's future interactions with consoles.
There’s a lot of good reasons to be excited about what Valve has going on right now when it comes to the group s own games. With the launch of Half-Life: Alyx in 2020, Valve makes good games again, and both Gabe Newell and other Valve staff have teased that they aren’t stopping there. More interestingly, when recently asked about Valve’s steam-only games and the possibility of console releases, GabeN had some very choice words. It seems we can expect some interesting updates by the end of 2021.
This tidbit was revealed in a video posted on the Half-Life Subreddit in which Gabe Newell had visited the Sancta Maria College where he is a regular guest speaker for digital student studies. During a recent video, Newell was asked about the possibility of Steam exclusive games coming to consoles. Interestingly, he teased that it’s a topic Valve is going to be able to speak to soon.

The CEO of Valve, the company behind the majorly popular PC game store Steam, Gabe Newell has hinted at the possibility of bringing Steam, or previously PC exclusive Steam games, to consoles. Gabe said that we will know more “by the end of the year.”
This news comes from a talk that the CEO had at Sancta Maria College in New Zealand, where he has been living for the past year. Gabe was there to speak with the college’s digital studies students, and one student asked if we would see any Steam games ported to consoles.
Gabe replied, saying “You will have a better idea of that by the end of this year,” followed by something along the lines of “it won’t be the answer you’d expect.”
