You may have read a lot about the Business Visits and Events Partnership, often abbreviated as the BVEP, but do you actually know what they do? The BVEP plays an important role in advocating for the events industry and, together with its association members, known as partners, lobbies and communicates directly with Government. What is the BVEP? The BVEP is an ‘umbrella organisation , representing other events industry trade associations to Government. It says its vision is to support sustainable growth for the UK’s events industry. It represents all aspects of the events industry, including those operating within conferences, meetings, exhibitions, trade shows, festivals, music, and more.

International Confex confirms date change

International Confex will take place 22-23 June 2021 at ExCeL London, organiser Mash Media has confirmed. The exhibition, which services the MICE industry, has seen a 158% increase in visitor registration year-on-year. Organisers say this underlines the importance of the event taking place in a live setting rather than online. Event director Duncan Custerson said that during the Covid-19 pandemic Mash Media has been a central figure in advocating for the sector. It facilitated the creation of cross-industry movement One Industry One Voice and keeping the community informed with all developments. He said that it was only right that International Confex hold a fully live experience as a result.

Positive signs regarding a quick recovery for the exhibition industry in 2021 UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, has released the latest edition of its flagship Global Barometer research, which takes the pulse of the industry. Results highlight the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the exhibition industry worldwide, in 2020. There are also positive signs regarding a quick recovery in 2021. Globally, between April and August 2020, more than half of all companies reported no activity. This situation changed from September, where the majority of companies declared some operations, at reduced levels for most. Looking ahead to 2021, the share of companies expecting a return to “normal” activity is expected to grow from 10% in January to 37% in June.

What is an All-Party Parliamentary Group?

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events was re-established in November in 2020, with Theresa Villiers MP, Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet, taking on the role of chair.   Villiers took over from James Heappey MP, who was chair for four years, but stood down once he was appointed Minister for the Armed Forces at the end of 2019.  Officers elected to the group include Robert Largan MP, Mark Menzies MP, Robert Seely MP, Owen Thompson MP, Andrew Slaughter MP, Stephen Hammond MP, Rachel Hopkins MP, and Debbie Abrahams MP. London Wine Fair 2021 to go ahead in fully digital format The London Wine Fair 2021 is to go ahead virtually in May, its organisers have announced. The event, which had been set to take place in a hybrid digital and physical format, was moved completely online following consultation with exhibitors, the venue - London s Olympia - and the Association of Event Organisers in light of on-going uncertainty around Covid-19. Set to take place from 17 to 19 May, the event will be the first live trade tasting event of its scale in the UK for 14 months and organisers hope to offer a pioneering experience to ticket holders.
