West Suffolk College to teach students black history all year round
STUDENTS AT a college in West Suffolk are to be taught black history all year round and is the first college in the country to do so.
Staff and students at West Suffolk College in Bury St. Edmunds decided to make a positive change after the tragic death of George Floyd in May last year.
His death sparked anti-racism demonstrations across the world and started discussions around racial injustice.
Equality and Diversity Leader and Lecturer in health and social care, Ellisha Soanes, also opened up conversations with her students about racism. She encouraged them to explore what equality, diversity and inclusion actually meant within their college and around the world.
