For the first time in weeks, the Sangamon County Department of Public Health’s drive-through COVID-19 vaccination site on Springfield’s east side began accepting new appointments Tuesday.
As many as 12,000 new appointments for first doses of vaccine were available. The shots will be given March 16 through April 30.
People in the state’s 1A, 1B and 1B-plus categories will be served. Those categories include people 65 and older, people 18 to 65 with certain chronic health conditions and those with disabilities, health-care and other “essential” workers, and residents and staff in long-term care facilities.
County officials are using the honor system to confirm that vaccine seekers fit within one of the eligible categories.
