Tupelo man charged with car burglaries

TUPELO - Police responding to an early morning car burglary were able to capture a suspect, thanks to the help of residents. Tupelo police spokesman Capt. Chuck McDougald said officers were dispatched to Brown Street around 4 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 10. The victim said their home security system captured images of someone breaking into their cars. The resident was able to give police a usable photo of the suspect. Officers located a suspect in the area and a foot chase began. Officers caught and detained Cameron Miller, 18, of Tupelo, within moments. Evidence, including at least one stolen firearm, confirmed that Miller was the suspect in question and he was arrested and transported to the county jail.

Man shot at west Tupelo house party

TUPELO – Police are investigating a Friday night shooting incident that left one man in critical condition. Tupelo police spokesman Capt. Chuck McDougald said officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Feb. 5 to the 200 block of Lakeview Drive, located just south of West Main Street between Monument Drive and Maynard Street. The responding officers found a man who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound inside the house. The victim was carried to the North Mississippi Medical Center where he remained in critical condition Saturday morning. “The preliminary information is that victim was a guest in the home for a party when shooting occurred,” McDougald said. “The investigation is in its early stages.”
