ETF of the Week: Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF)

ETF Trends CEO Tom Lydon discussed the Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) on this week’s “ETF of the Week” podcast with Chuck Jaffe on the MoneyLife Show. This ETF, one of the powerhouse SPDR products, provides exposure to an index that includes companies from the following industries: diversified financial services; insurance; commercial banks; capital markets; real estate investment trusts; thrift & mortgage finance; consumer finance; and real estate management & development. XLF contains the who’s-who of the domestic economy’s financial players, including JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, and others. This makes it an ideal play on the U.S. financials world, which has not always been stable.

ETF of the Week: Global X Cybersecurity ETF (BUG)

ETF Trends CEO Tom Lydon discussed the Global X Cybersecurity ETF (BUG) on this week’s “ETF of the Week” podcast with Chuck Jaffe on the MoneyLife Show. BUG seeks to invest in companies that stand to potentially benefit from the increased adoption of cybersecurity technology, such as those whose principal business is in the development and management of security protocols preventing intrusion and attacks to systems, networks, applications, computers, and mobile devices. Cybersecurity stocks have been rallying after a high-level attack on broad U.S. federal systems. With that in mind, BUG has been up 17% for a 1-week return; +32.0% for its 1-month return; and +75% YTD.

ETF of the Week: Arrow DWA Tactical International ETF (DWCR)

ETF Trends CEO Tom Lydon discussed the Arrow DWA Tactical International ETF (DWCR) on this week’s “ETF of the Week” podcast with Chuck Jaffe on the MoneyLife Show. DWCR seeks long-term capital appreciation that corresponds generally to the performance, before fees and expenses, of the Dorsey Wright Country and Stock Momentum Index. The index is constructed pursuant to Dorsey, Wright & Associates’ proprietary methodology. The index has a relative strength focus that looks for the 10 strongest performing countries among a universe of 41 countries. Once the country is identified, the index methodology is designed to identify 10 companies that demonstrate powerful relative strength characteristics within that country. The fund and the index are equally weighted and rebalanced and reconstituted quarterly.

LEGAL CORNER: The comfort that comes with planning ahead

Sam Moak Editor s Note: The information in this column is not intended as legal advice but to provide a general understanding of the law. Any readers with a legal problem, including those whose questions are addressed here, should consult an attorney for advice on their particular circumstances. While Will contests and trust litigation do not happen often, it can happen. Having a well drawn Last Will and Testament or Trust can help. Everybody thinks it won’t happen to them. Or rather, everybody knows it’s going to happen to them eventually, but nobody thinks it’s going to happen tomorrow, or next week, or even next year. The “it” of which I speak is, of course, death. It is this perceived immortality that allows so many people to put off their estate planning until it is too late. However, the tragic loss of a young life this morning and the loss of a young couple in College Station last Sunday reminded me, only God knows when it will happen.

ETF of the Week: VanEck Vectors Oil Service ETF (OIH)

ETF Trends CEO Tom Lydon discussed the VanEck Vectors Oil Service ETF (OIH) on this week’s “ETF of the Week” podcast with Chuck Jaffe on the MoneyLife Show. This ETF is designed to track the largest 25 U.S.-listed oil service companies. As such, investors should not expect a deep portfolio, but it is important to note that the fund heavily favors its top ten holdings. It is also important to mention that about one-quarter of the fund is invested in foreign equities, as several firms on the list are cross-listed on foreign exchanges or hold their headquarters beyond our borders.
