The City of Flin Flon is starting to make plans to replace the irreplaceable - whenever it may be possible to do so. Flin Flonners will be returning to the polls at some point in the near future to elect the successor to councillor Colleen McKee.
At the time of her death, McKee was the community’s deputy mayor. Mayor Cal Huntley gave praise and a salute to McKee for her work on council and in the community. “She was my right hand. She was a handful and there was never a dull moment with councillor McKee around. I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart, that she’s really going to be missed,” said the mayor. “She was a good friend and she will be terribly missed by us and the community.” “She was a firecracker,” said councillor Karen MacKinnon, choking back tears. McKee and MacKinnon combined to be the City’s longest-serving female councillors. Both were eligible for a City of Flin Flon ring, traditionally awarded to city councillors who have served at least two terms. MacKinnon and McKee each got rings that McKee designed - MacKinnon showed her ring to the rest of the meeting.
