Dragons Rising: Drexel Eyeing History in 2021

Friday April 16th, 2021 10:45am (Photo Courtesy: Drexel Women s Lacrosse) When Jill Batcheller took the reigns at Drexel in July 2018, Courtney Dietzel, a rising junior at the time, was a little nervous at first. Hannah Wszalek was the one who recruited her out of nearby Central Bucks South. But it didn’t take long for those fears to melt away. “Jill, Maddie [Lesher] and Kelsey [Donnelly] are so amazing and fit into our group so well,” said Dietzel, now in her fifth year with Drexel. “Once we got to know them, it was the perfect fit, and it’s been so much fun, especially in this third year.”

Don’t even bother trying to make predictions in the Big Ten anymore. In the latest example how every team other than Northwestern is susceptible to an upset, unranked Johns Hopkins took down No. 19 Penn State 13-10 Wednesday evening at Homewood Field. After Kristin O’Neill tied the score at 4 with 6:49 left in the first half, Hopkins scored the next five goals to take a 9-4 lead. Mackenzie Heldberg made the score 13-7 later in the game, and although Maria Auth scored the contest’s final three goals, Penn State could not complete a late comeback attempt.

Women s DI Roundup: Drexel Rising, Big Ten Broadcasts & More

Sunday March 7th, 2021 3:30pm (Photo Courtesy: Jill Batcheller)  It’s wild to think that a year ago this weekend was the final weekend of lacrosse for the 2020 season.  I don’t think that anyone would have guessed that even an entire year later, we are still living in this “new normal.”  It is truly impressive what has been done to make the 2021 season happen. There have been many sacrifices made, and extra work put in, to have teams stay safe and healthy over the course of the year. There is an endless list of people to give credit to at each university, as well as people who have helped provide live streaming to families and fans who are unable to attend games like everyone is used to. While we’ve seen many postponed games due to COVID-19, I think we all are just grateful to have some form of a season this year and so far the season has been great.
