Netcare helicopter crash: Sacaa investigators visiting site daily to collect evidence

The Netcare 911 air ambulance was reduced to mere ashes after an eye witness reported that it exploded into flame in mid-air. (The Witness) SA Civil Aviation Authority investigators are collecting evidence at the site of a fatal helicopter crash in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The crash killed the pilot and four healthcare workers, who were on their way to transport a critically ill patient to Johannesburg. The accident is under investigation. The SA Civil Aviation Authority (Sacaa) is currently collecting evidence which may shed some light on what caused a helicopter crash that killed four healthcare workers and a pilot this week.

Crews from different emergency medical service providers gathered at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Thursday evening to pay their respects to the five Netcare 911 crew who died in a helicopter crash in KwaZulu-Natal earlier in the day.  According to sources, the gesture was spontaneous, with industry colleagues and members of the public laying flowers at the hospital. In a video, scores of emergency vehicles can be seen flashing their red lights in remembrance of their fallen colleagues.  Two doctors, a nurse, a paramedic and the pilot were killed in the crash. They were Dr Kgopotso Rudolph Mononyane, an anaesthetist; Dr Curnick Siyabonga Sia Mahlangu, a cardiothoracic surgeon; Mpho Xaba, a specialist theatre nurse for cardiothoracic and transplant - all from Netcare Milpark Hospital; Sinjin Joshua Farrance, an advanced life support paramedic at Netcare 911; as well as the pilot of the helicopter, Mark Stoxreiter, who worked for the National Airways Corpor

Civil Aviation Authority probing Netcare helicopter crash that killed pilot, 4 healthcare workers

The team were on their way to transport a critically ill patient to Netcare Milpark Hospital when the helicopter crashed in Bergville in the KZN Midlands.  The SA Civil Aviation Authority has sent a team of investigators to the scene.  The SA Civil Aviation Authority (Sacca) has sent a team to the scene of a helicopter crash in KwaZulu-Natal that claimed the lives of four Netcare healthcare workers and a pilot on Thursday. The Accident and Incident Investigation team has been notified of an aircraft accident and have dispatched a team that is already on its way to the site of the crash, Sacca spokesperson Kabelo Ledwaba told News24.

In a statement SANParks said it s Airbus AS350B-3+ (Squirrel) helicopter was damaged after losing control during take-off from Cape Town International Airport on Saturday morning. “The pilot who was flying alone during the incident only suffered minor injuries and received medical attention. The aircraft is based in Cape Town to assist with aerial law enforcement and conservation management operations in the Table Mountain National Park and surrounding areas.”
