AMAZULU chairman Sandile Zungu and coach Benni MCarthy have said they are relieved that the SA Football Association (Safa) ended the speculation around who was the next coach of Bafana Bafana when they appointed Hugo Broos last week.
Safa named the Belgian on Wednesday, ending three weeks of speculation that had dragged McCarthy’s name into the job, until it was confirmed Wednesday morning that the Usuthu coach was no longer in the running after failing to agree with the association on his support staff.
In a press conference organised by the club in Durban on Thursday, Zungu and McCarthy acknowledged the AmaZulu coach’s link to Bafana. McCarthy declined to get into the details and how the deal fell through, and said he wanted to treat the matter as just speculation.

The SA Football Association (Safa) has finally parted ways “amicably” with former Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki.
Ntseki was shown the door by Safa more than a month ago after Bafana failed to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Cameroon next year and has since been replaced by Belgian Hugo Broos.
But there was talk that he could be retained in some capacity after Safa began the search for his replacement.
Ntseki was appointed as Bafana head coach in August 2019 after serving as assistant to Stuart Baxter for two years‚ where they reached the quarterfinals of the 2019 Afcon in Egypt.

Belgian Hugo Broos has confirmed to TimesLIVE that he was contacted by high-ranking SA Football Association (Safa) officials about the vacant Bafana Bafana coaching job.
Safa are desperately working around the clock to find a replacement for former coach Molefi Ntseki, who was relieved of his duties a little over a month ago after Bafana failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Cameroon.
The Belgian was believed to be out of the race a few days ago but has re-emerged as the frontrunner after Safa s initial attempts to be bring in Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz and later fan favourite Benni McCarthy hit snags.
