First adult mental health centre opens in Adelaide
Thousands of South Australians needing urgent mental health assistance will now be able to access cutting edge out-of-hospital care, with the doors opened this week at a nation-first mental health centre that is an alternative to a hospital Emergency Department.
The $14m Urgent Mental Health Care Centre (UMHCC) in Adelaide is the first of eight to be opened under a $114.5 million trial funded by the Australian Government.
Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, said the Adelaide Urgent Mental Health Care Centre (UMHCC) would give adults access to a range of mental health support services during extended operating hours, from midday to midnight.

The Government’s Bill is based on recommendations from an expert report provided by the Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) and is strengthened by input from key road safety stakeholders, motorcycle groups and industry representatives.
Tragically, five motorcyclist lives have been lost in 2021. The current number of lives lost is 17 compared to 16 at the same time last year.

Adelaide to host 2023 NRL State of Origin
South Australia will again welcome the biggest rivalry in Rugby with the return of the NRL State of Origin.
Premier Steven Marshall announced today that South Australia has secured the rights to host the 2023 event at Adelaide Oval – the neutral venue in the three game series.
“It’s a great result for rugby fans, but also a big win for South Australian hotels, restaurants and cafes,” Premier Marshall said.
“More than 20,000 interstate visitors are expected to visit Adelaide to help celebrate the big match – injecting an estimated $15 million dollars into the South Australian economy.

No “wrong door” with new, single housing register
A new, single register for South Australians applying for social housing launching today will make the process quicker and easier.
Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said the new Single Housing Register replaces two separate registers for Aboriginal, public and community housing.
The new register includes Housing SA and at least 24 Community Housing Providers.
“Previously, South Australians had to apply for social housing on two different systems and they were faced with various registration forms – a process that could be both confusing and time consuming,” said Minister Lensink.
“From today, customers can apply for public, community and Aboriginal housing in one place on the new Single Housing Register, saving them time and energy.
